Alumni Share Career Advice with Community College Students

On May 25th, community college students from UO and regional community colleges convened on campus for the 2023 Undergraduate Research Symposium.  Taking advantage of the opportunity to bring scientists and engineers together, the Knight Campus Graduate Internship Program hosted a lunch and career networking event for Central Oregon, Lane and Umpqua Community College students interested in pursuing STEM careers.

Many of the attendees were scholars and associates of the Oregon Pathways to Industry Research Careers (OPIRC) program, a $4.3M NSF program that provides students with financial and mentorship support as they finish their education at community colleges and transfer to UO for their bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the physical sciences.

“The event showcases the KCGIP alumni and staff’s commitment to developing the future generation of scientists and engineers. Alumni were eager to share insights and tips on how to succeed both in school and in STEM careers” said Stacey York, Sr Director of Professional Development and Career Readiness in the Knight Campus.
