Semiconductor Launch is a new program hosted by the Knight Campus Graduate Internship Program and generously funded by Micron. It is an immersive experience for up to 12 students from historically marginalized, ethnic minority populations* interested in pursuing a master’s degree in semiconductors. Up to three faculty members accepted to the Semiconductor Launch program will be invited to learn how they can advise students looking to pursue careers in the semiconductor industry. 

Students accepted into Semiconductor Launch will…

  • Receive domestic round-trip travel to Eugene, Oregon
  • Receive private hotel accommodations
  • Be provided with event meals
  • Receive $200 honorarium for participating in agenda activities
  • Attend a full-day microfabrication workshop in the state-of-the-art facilities at the University of Oregon in CAMCOR and in the Phil & Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact
  • Attend semiconductor career exploration workshops and meet with Knight Campus Graduate Internship Program Semiconductor Alumni
  • Network and build community with like-minded students
  • Explore Eugene, Oregon through tours of the Knight Campus, UO Main Campus, and other local spots

Faculty accepted into Semiconductor Launch will…

  • Receive domestic round-trip travel to Eugene, Oregon
  • Receive private hotel accommodations
  • Be provided with event meals
  • Receive an $800 honorarium for participating in agenda activities
  • Attend a full-day microfabrication workshop in the state-of-the-art facilities at the University of Oregon in CAMCOR and in the Phil & Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact
  • Attend a workshop designed for those providing advising guidance for students interested pursuing a career in the semiconductor industry
  • Network with like-minded peers
  • Explore Eugene, Oregon through tours of the Knight Campus, UO Main Campus, and other local spots

Eligible students and faculty must be available to travel to and from Eugene, Oregon on February 27 and March 2, 2025, and must be available to participate in program activities February 28 - March 1, 2025. Student applicants must be juniors, seniors, or professionals planning to apply for the Knight Campus Graduate Internship Program's Semiconductor or Optics tracks starting in Summer 2025 or Summer 2026. Eligible students should be pursuing undergraduate degrees in physics, chemistry, engineering, and related fields. Faculty applicants should have an interest in supporting students interested in pursuing careers in semiconductors.

*Historically marginalized ethnic minorities in STEM, according to the NSF, include Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, American Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islanders, and Southeast Asian people. 

We are only able to provide domestic flights for participants. Participants will be provided with domestic transportation, lodging, event meals, and access to agenda-related activities.
